Creado para reconocer a personalidades que contribuyen al cine como arte que une culturas y espectadores de todo el mundo, este reconocimiento se otorga a Susan Sarandon por ser “una de las actrices más destacadas del cine de Hollywood: con una filmografía que reúne un buen número de incuestionables obras maestras y también películas icónicas que han pasado a la cultura popular y joyas de culto recordadas por cinéfilos de todo el mundo. Durante décadas, ha sido uno de los rostros más destacados del Hollywood más admirado”.  La Junta Directiva de la institución también ha valorado el valiente compromiso político y social de la actriz y productora.

• The American actress will be honored during the 40th Goya Awards ceremony, which will take place next February 28th in Barcelona, for having an extraordinary filmography with unforgettable performances in masterpieces and also movies that are core to popular culture; for her courageous political and social commitment; and for being one of the most prominent faces of Hollywood cinema for decades, admired by film lovers around the world.

With a filmography as extensive as it is impressive, Susan Sarandon –a key figure in contemporary Hollywood– represents the perfect combination of talent and professional success, glamour and social and political commitment. The star of legendary films such as Thelma & Louise, The Client, The Witches of Eastwick, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Atlantic City, The Hunger, and Dead Man Walking, for which she won an Oscar, will receive the 2026 International Goya Award in Barcelona on February 28 at a special gala celebrating 40 years of the Goya Awards.

Created to honor artists that have contributed to cinema as a medium that brings together different cultures and people around the world, this award is given to Sarandon to honor one of the most prominent actresses in Hollywood cinema. With a filmography that includes a number of undisputed masterpieces, as well as iconic films that have become part of popular culture and cult classics remembered by film lovers around the world, she has been one of the most admired faces in Hollywood. The Academy’s board of directors also praised the courageous political and social commitment of the actress and producer.

Sarandon, always self-considered a character actress, chose roles that reflected this idea from the beginning of her career in the 1970s and made a point of not repeating herself and seeking diversity. Paul Newman, Jack Nicholson, Jack Lemmon, Richard Gere, Burt Lancaster, Kevin Costner, Ed Harris, Tommy Lee Jones, Tim Robbins, David Bowie, Sean Penn, Cher, Michelle Pfeiffer, Julia Roberts, and Geena Davis are some of the many co-stars who attest to her talent and commitment to her profession and the society she’s part of.

She has received five Oscar nominations—for Atlantic City, Thelma & Louise, Lorenzo’s Oil, and The Client— and she won for Dead Man Walking, in which she plays a nun who accompanies a man on death row—and nine Golden Globe nominations, among other distinctions.  Bull Durham, Stepmom, Little Women, and the television series Feud, in which she played Bette Davis, are also part of the résumé of this New York artist known for her versatility, her voice in numerous causes and her taste for risk and experimental cinema, in which one of her most memorable characters is Louise in the feminist film classic Thelma & Louise.

A firm believer and advocate of human rights, Sarandon, who grew up in a large family —she is the eldest of nine siblings—and was raised Catholic, is in love with Spain, a country she will visit again to receive the fifth International Goya Award from the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences of Spain, an award previously given to Cate Blanchett, Juliette Binoche, Sigourney Weaver, and Richard Gere.
